So anyway, back to Happy #1 of 4 (Image) by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson. Obviously a pairing of this creative team is worth a look regardless of the story hook (for what it's worth it involves an ex-homicide detective turned hitman, a botched hit and a floating blue unicorn) but I'm really intrigued by BleedingCool's suggestion (see here) that it's been written as a reaction to those writers who revel in bloody and violent storytelling (I think he's looking at you Mr. Millar).
Other comics out this week: In Steed and Mrs Peel Ongoing #1 (Boom!) by Mark Waid& Caleb Monroe, spies have infiltrated all areas of British society - who can our well-mannered heroes trust? There's Before Watchmen: Ozymandias #3 (DC) of 6 by Len Wein& Jae Lee (“If a man has the opportunity to do good, he’s obliged to take it”). Plus National Comics: Rose and Thorn #1 (DC) by Tom Taylor& Neil Googe. And as I'm feeling guilty about featuring so many non-Marvel I'll plug Jason Aaron's Incredible Hulk #14, currently one of my current titles and this week starting a new story arc.
In DC's #0's: All Star Western #0 reveals how Jonah Hex became scarred, Batman is shown assembling his lieutenants in Batman Inc. #0 and Batman: The Dark Knight #0 features the New 52 take on Batman's investigation into the death of his parents.
Scott Snyder's decades-spanning American Vampire has been a big hit - I've never heard a bad word said about it - which is no mean thing when vampires have been around in fiction forever. This week sees the release of American Vampire vol 3 in paperback, featuring art by Raphael Albuquerque and Sean Murphy, and American Vampire vol 4 in hardcover (both DC) including art by Albuquerque, Jordi Bernet and Roger Cruz. Both these books represent fantastic value for money: volume 4 contains nine issues and volume 3 a whopping twelve issues. Great stuff.

Plus; Walking Dead vol 8 (Image) hardcover finally surfaces collecting #85-96 and Tower Chronicles vol 1 (Legendary) of 4 is a slice of dark fantasy from Matt Wagner and Simon Bisley about a supernatural bounty hunter.
As ever, the full list is under the tab at the top of the page.
