So many great new comics this week, where to begin? Oh, how about with one of the most anticipated new series of the year, the weekly - yes, you read that correctly, weekly - ongoing Bat-title, BATMAN ETERNAL! This year long series will tie in to the regular BATMAN storyline written by Scott Snyder, and will feature stories on the entire Batfamily, including the return of fan favourite character Stephanie Brown (hurray!).

Other exciting debuts this week: popular online cartoonist Noelle Stevenson (aka Gingerhaze) writes the 'Buffy meets Cabin the Woods' mini series LUMBERJANES, and having seen previews online I definitely cannot wait to read this one. Glory-writer Joe Keatinge's new urban fantasy series SHUTTER is also one I'm really looking forward to reading, and I like the look of the new FLASH GORDON series, because there's a definite lack of pulpy science fiction fun on my pull list right now. But wait, we haven't even mentioned Marvel comics yet! Danny Rand is back in IRON FIST, NIGHTCRAWLER bamfs out of Amazing X-Men and into his own series, little green mutant DOOP gets a miniseries, and Miles Morales leads the newly reformed ULTIMATES.

Also arriving: the penultimate KICK ASS 3, a stand alone story for COFFIN HILL, special oversized issues for ALL NEW X-MEN and DAREDEVIL, DEADPOOL gets married (!?) and the reprint of sellout DREDD UNDBERBELLY is finally here.

THE BLACK FEATHER FALLS

The Black Feather Falls is a charming four-part period mystery about a Tina Swift, a young American living in London who decides to abandon her quiet life as a shopkeeper when a murder occurs on her doorstep. In Book One she meets her fellow investigative partner, gets ignored by the police (she'll show those silly misogynists what a woman can do!), and takes the first steps towards uncovering the truth. There's also hints at a wider backstory that suggests Tina's past may somehow be involved in the events of the present.

Lindner's use of a limited colour palette works well here, and paired with her simple, bold lines is striking on the page. I also appreciated the fine period details in the backgrounds (London looks beautiful), and especially the fashions - the difference in privilege between the two female leads is shown in the way they dress, without having to state it outloud, and of course all the designs are in the fabulous 20s style.

This is an intriguing story for all ages that would be a great introduction for mystery fans to the world of comics, and anyone who enjoys a bit of historical fun. Book 2 is published 24 April, and I'm certainly looking forward to unravelling more of this delightful little mystery.

It's that time again - Marvel's about to unveil it's spectacular summer crossover event, and it looks really good. No, seriously. The prequel to the murder-mystery ORIGINAL SIN arrives this week, and though Marvel likes to promise universal upheaval in every event, from what I've seen of the previews and storyline I think this time they definitely mean it. After all, who doesn't enjoy a good whodunnit? Add in the fact Captain America finds out about his mind being wiped by the Illuminati (oh no!), the Young Avengers return (hurray!), and many more ~secrets are revealed~ and it all sounds quite exciting. I can't wait! The conclusion to FOREVER EVIL finally arrives this week, so if you were waiting for the event to finish to avoid any spoilers in the other New 52 titles your patience will be rewarded at last. It's about time, right? The new event FUTURE'S END already started! (Issue #3 is out Weds.) I'm sure however it'll be worth the wait. Speaking of events, ORIGINAL SIN continues to devastate the Marvel Universe as the Avengers search for a murderer, with even more long held secrets being revealed - who's turn to despair (or at least cringe with embarrassment) will be it be this week?
